Before joining D.A.R.E. America, Mr. McGivney spent 29 years as a Special Agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). In addition to extensive undercover and investigative assignments throughout the country, he served as the Agent in Charge of Columbia, S.C. and as the Chief of the Academic Operations Unit at DEA's Office of Training at Quantico, Virginia, where he was responsible for the development and oversight of all of DEA's entry-level training programs.
For the last four years of his career, Mr. McGivney was the Director of DEA's office of Public Affairs and served as an advisor to the DEA Administrator on public affairs matters and was the chief spokesman for DEA.
Mr. McGivney was the founder and first Director of the DEA Museum and Visitors Center. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Former Federal Narcotics Investigators (AFFNA)and the DEA Museum Foundation.
In 1969, he received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Northern Illinois University and in 1993, he completed his Master's Degree in Education (M.Ed.) at the University of Virginia. He is a veteran of the United States Army.
