Youth Advisory Board Representative

Kylie Olsen

My name is Kylie Olsen and I am 16 years old. Currently, I am a Junior at Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming. I am a first time representative and am extremely honored to serve as a representative on the D.A.R.E National Youth Advisory Board for the next two years. 

The D.A.R.E program has been an enormous part of my life. I remember an important moment that affirmed my decision to stand apart from the norm: This moment occurred while reading my pledge letter at my fifth grade D.A.R.E graduation. Ever since completing the D.A.R.E program, I have had a passion for leading others away from bad decisions and to success. I feel that educating others about safe decision making is most important. I have always been taught to be myself and to have integrity. I have learned never to compromise my stand, and was taught to “Just Say No!“ I first learned this at home, and then built on this during the D.A.R.E program in elementary school. I strive to teach others this same concept.

The opportunity of representing Wyoming on the D.A.R.E Youth Advisory Board has created so many avenues for me to expand the D.A.R.E program in Wyoming. In Thermopolis, the D.A.R.E Role Model group has increased greatly in numbers. I am very excited to expand the D.A.R.E Role Model group to other towns in Wyoming. The age group that I am focusing on most is children in grades 4-6. I feel that a positive influence during a child’s transition from elementary school to Junior high is critical.

I am quite involved in school activities. I hold my studies above all else in school. I am the President of my class and hold many responsibilities. I enjoy Speech and Debate, Drama, Student Council, FFA, and Choir. I am also involved in the Big Brother Big Sister Mentoring Program, National Honor Society, and KEY Club.

Lastly, I love D.A.R.E and I enjoy the fact that I am involved in such a life-changing program.
