D.A.R.E. America Youth Advisory Board representative for New Jersey

Hello, my name is Lauren Fonde and I am the D.A.R.E. Youth Advisory Board Representative for New Jersey.

In my community, the D.A.R.E. program is introduced to students in the sixth grade. During the program, D.A.R.E. officers come into the classrooms and teach valuable lessons to the students once a week for several weeks. For example, students learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, peer pressure, and how to say no to drugs and peer pressure.

Furthermore, D.A.R.E. teaches about decision-making and how any quick decision can affect a person and their families for a lifetime. Throughout the D.A.R.E. program, the students, officers, and chaperones take part in activities, such as visiting the local skating rink.

I became involved in the D.A.R.E. program by the sixth grade. After I graduated from the program, I still wanted to take part in D.A.R.E. I have attended events that D.A.R.E. is a part of, such as the D.A.R.E. graduations in my community and the annual New Jersey D.A.R.E. camp held in the summer.

D.A.R.E. has influenced my life by making me aware of many situations within the country and community. I have learned so much because of the D.A.R.E. program and the D.A.R.E. officers. With this knowledge, I help educate the children and young adults. The lessons that the D.A.R.E. program teaches stays with people for a lifetime.

As the Youth Advisory Board Representative for New Jersey, I can spread my knowledge across a larger amount of people. I am a positive role model in the community, helping the students learn as much as they can about decision-making in tough situations. What’s more, I am drug-free and alcohol-free because of the lessons of the D.A.R.E. program and D.A.R.E. officers.
