Joy of Motion Dance Center, located in Washington, D.C., is dedicated to providing high-quality learning and performance opportunities that reinforce the principle that dance is for everyone. Founded in 1976, Joy of Motion Dance Center has grown to be one of the country’s largest dance education centers operating four locations in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. Currently, at its four sites, Joy of Motion Dance Center provides over 350 classes per week for thousands of adults as well as children and operates its very own Jack Guidone Theater for Joy of Motion dance productions as
well as other community dance performance events.
Beyond the walls of its centers, Joy of Motion also manages numerous outreach initiatives that provide free and reduced tuition for hundreds of young dancers and adults in after-school, in-school and community dance programs throughout the region. A mainstay of these outreach initiatives is the work that Joy of Motion does through D.A.R.E. ® Dance America. Joy of Motion is proud to be a founding organization and supporter of D.A.R.E. ® Dance America and currently oversees eight sites in D.C and Virginia. As a nonprofit arts organization, Joy of Motion teaches and encourages people of all ages who want to integrate movement into their lives for better physical and spiritual health, and to that end, week by week, dancers, young and old alike come to Joy of Motion to experience the many benefits dance can provide to their lives and communities. Joy of Motion Dance Center was the recipient of the 2002 Mayor's Art Award for Excellence in Service to the Arts in Washington, D.C.
