2008 Monitoring the Future Statistics

The 2008 "Monitoring the Future" survey's latest percentages to be used with the D.A.R.E. elementary and middle school lessons:

Use in the Last 30 Days by Eighth Graders

• Tobacco 6.8%    
• Alcohol   15.9%
• Marijuana 5.8%
• Inhalants   4.1%
• Hallucinogens .9%

The Monitoring the Future study is an annual survey of the behaviors, attitudes, and values of American secondary school students, college students, and young adults. Each year, a total of some 50,000 8th, 10th and 12th grade students are surveyed.
